The new Bing Smart Search

Windows 8.1 Started Rolling Out
Customised tile sizes in Windows 8.1
Windows 8.1, the latest version of Windows following the controversial and confusing Windows 8, started rolling out to customers worldwide earlier this week. The update is being called my many 'what the original Windows 8 should have been' because it includes lots of tweaks and improvements rather than new features. New features don't go completely absent though, Bing is now built in and the search results are extremely impressive as they scan the web and everything on your PC, there a verity of new Bing apps including Bing 'Food and Drink' and Bing 'Health and Fitness' and a handful of new Microsoft apps to such as a calculator and alarm. All the Microsoft Apps have been redesigned and made faster also.
The update allows you to personalise your computer more with more options on your background, different colours and the ability to re-size apps so you can have them really big or really small.
After complaints about Windows 8 that it lacked a 'Start' button, it has returned in Windows 8.1, the button takes you back to the 'Metro' Start screen and appears in the bottom left corner.

Government Advises People to Wear Jumpers
Westminster, the centre of brilliant ideas in England, has once again failed to disappoint with their latest piece of advice they've gave out to help people save money in Winter. They say that you should 'wear jumpers' to save spending money on heating. The announcement was on Thursday's episode of Newsnight where the spokesman for the Prime Minister also said "I am sure people do wear jumpers, I wear jumpers at home."

Chinese Parents Sell Baby for iPhone
Two parents have been arrested after they sold their baby daughter and some of the proceeds went towards a new iPhone! The parents had apparently advertised the baby online asking for somewhere between £3000 - £5000 for the unborn child. According to Chinese press the money was also used to buy some "high-end sport shoes".
This is not the first time something similar to this has happened. A few years ago a teenage boy sold his kidney so he could buy an iPhone!

Apple 'Spaceship' Campus Model
Earlier this week a scale model of the new futuristic Apple campus was shown off. The images show a black and white doughnut shaped building surrounded by trees and 2 blocks of car parking space just off a road to the side of the building. It has not been decided yet if the building will be constructed yet however a vote in the near future will give us that answer.

Bearded Muslim pupil allowed to return to School
A 14-year old Muslim boy is allowed to return to school on Monday after spending a month in isolation and being excluded from school after refusing to shave of his beard. The facial hair did not comply with the school rules at the Accrington secondary however the boy argued it was part of his religion to keep it. Another boy at the school still has an unresolved case and is needing to stay at home until it is sorted out.
Headteacher and the Governing Body at the school where 1/3rd of pupils are Muslims are not planning to change any of their appearance policies anytime soon which means this dilemma will continue to go on.

American Army Iron Man Suits
One of the richest armies in the world, the US Army, announced earlier this week that they were developing a new suit of armor which would give solderers "super human strength". The "revolutionary" exoskeleton concept designs include a smart material fitted with sensors to monitor body temperature, heart rate and hydration levels.

Ghost Dating Website
Young people in their 20 or 30s are the people most likely to use a dating website, the odd OAP uses a dating website to however a whole new market has been blown open today as GhostSignles.com got launched - a dating website for ghosts.
Ghosts who are interested in using the new service just need to submit their gender, how many centuries old they are and how they died (either mysteriously, suddenly, tragically or horribly). Once the website has this information, ghosts are able to find their perfect matches. The site even gives dating tips for ghosts!

And on the subject of dating: App stops people from Iceland from dating their Relatives
There has not been much immigration to Iceland over the last few decades so most people from Iceland are actually related so an app has been launched which allows them to check if they are related to the person they are about to go on a date with. The app informs you if you should or shouldn't date them (anything closer than 3rd cousin is a big no no) and it gathers it's information from official records which accurately date back to 1703!

Humans are to blame for Climate Change
The summary of a UN report on climate change was published earlier this week and stated that they are 95% sure that humans are to blame for global warming however Scientist are now extremely worried that people no longer care.

Scientists believe that the people who have the power to change the future are the government and they are well informed about this subject; despite this, unless they bring in a policy sea levels will continue raising and the green house effect will only get worse.

National Geographic did a feature in this months issue of their magazine about raising seal levels. They showed a world without ice and where the seas had raised by so much that counties had been submerged in water. By 2100 there are 4 possible scenarios of how much sea levels will have raised by. These have been predicted by scientists and the predictions variety from a sea-level rise of only 0.6 feet all the way to a huge rise of 6.6 feet. If the sea level did raise by 6.6 feet, the flat country of Holland would become a sea bed.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also said this week that temperatures will rise between 3.3 and 4.8 degrees Celsius by 2100.
The full report by the UN will be published on Monday where there will be more information released.

Microsoft Surface 2
This week Microsoft announced the Surface 2, a Windows 8.1 tablet with a dock, new attachable keyboards and kickstand which can support 2 angles. The Surface 2 is faster, lighter and has a longer battery life however it has many of the same problems as the original Microsoft Surface.

The target market for this device is not clear, is it businesses or normal consumers. The app store is also weak and the whole operating system inside is confusing and unappealing.

Microsoft did announce a new cover which clicks onto the bottom of the device. The cover has easy volume controls and works with a new app so you can mix songs together easily like a DJ. The cover is perfect for the app and DJs however it is going to be expensive, this will unfortunately limit the amount of people who purchase it.
It would be great news for app developers if Microsoft allowed 3rd parties to make touch covers. This would allow film editors to have a bigger track pad and more playback options, writers to have a better keyboard and programmers to have a keyboard which would give you commands easily. Problem with this is, would you want a different keyboard/cover for every app you use? Exactly.

There is a new dock which allows the Surface Pro 2 to slide in and then power up to another 2 displays. The dock is small and is perfect to have at your workstation whether your office or your study.
Overall, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 could easily give a MacBook Air a run for its money, they both have super fast graphics and amazing processors however the operating system lets the Surface down. And the Surface RT 2 is great competition for the iPad however the app store lets it down.
Without a doubt, it is clear to see that Microsoft has built 2 new amazing Surfaces however it is now down to the marketing department to advertise it correctly (hopefully better than they did last year).

iOS7 launches
Earlier this week, technology giant, Apple Inc launched iOS 7, their latest operating system which has new graphics, animations and whole new design. Only a few new features have been added (such as iTunes Radio and 'control centre' which you can get to easily by just swiping up from the bottom of your device). Apart from that the only differences you will notice have been in design. All of Apple's official apps have had a new coat of paint and they now operate slightly different to.

Every other update Apple has released before this one, consumers have loved because it has just added additional features however because of this redesign Apple had done to make the OS more 'flat' some customers have been put off. You iPhone will look completely different and there are a few new gestures you will need to learn to.

iOS7 is available to anyone with an iPad Mini, iPad 2 (or higher), 5th Generation iPod Touch or iPhone 5 (or higher).

BlackBerry cuts 4500 jobs globally
After loosing over a billion pounds since BlackBerry 10 launched around a year ago BlackBerry has been fading out of the smartphone market. During June Windows Phone even took over them for the 3rd biggest smartphone market share, so earlier this week BlackBerry announced that 4500 of their employees would loose their jobs.

BlackBerry is apparently planning to put themselves up for sale in November however this is not official and even if it does turn out to be true, I can't think who will want to buy them. Big tech companies such as Google, Apple and Microsoft won't be interested in purchasing BlackBerry because BlackBerry is a pretty independent company - not collaborating with any other corporations on projects or products. Maybe if BlackBerry started building unique and powerful Android phones they would survive a bit longer however for that to happen they would need to close down lots of their divisions meaning even more people would loose their jobs.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary
Earlier this week the BBC announced the name of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special which will be aired on the 23rd November 2013. It will be called 'The Day of the Doctor' and star both Matt Smith and David Tennant. If that wasn't enough, they also announced that the episode will be 75 minutes long (not 90 minutes as rumored) and they showed off the first poster for the episode. Doctor Who fans around the globe are eagerly anticipating the episode and I for one cannot wait!

Apple announces new iPhones
At Apple's annual iPhone press conference earlier this week Apple announced two new iPhones: the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.
The iPhone 5C has been brought out to replace the current iPhone 5, it is made from plastic and has pretty much the same specifications as the iPhone 5. It will come in a verity of colours.
The iPhone 5S however is Apple's flagship phone which boasts a finger print sensor at the bottom and a chip 45x faster than the original iPhone. It comes in 3 colours: silver, gold and 'space grey' and, of course, it runs iOS 7.
Unfortunately though, no new features were announced. Everything from the fingerprint sensor to the plastic iPhone 5C had been leaked to the press months before the event.

Better Call Saul
Chemistry fans globally have been extremely disappointed recently since their favorite program (recently voted highest rated TV program of all time) is drawing to a close. Yes, Breaking Bad is ending soon however you shouldn't feel too bad. Earlier this week, the network which airs Breaking Bad announced a spin of show called 'Better Call Saul' staring the mischievous lawyer Saul Goodman. The series will take place before the events of Breaking Bad.

"Don't drink and drive - but if you do call me" ~ Saul Goodman.

Waterloo Road Season 9
BBC 1’s popular school drama, Waterloo Road, returned to viewers screens on Thursday 5th September 2013. As always, the new series started with the introduction of new characters. This term it was the start of a pair of twins from a troubled past. Mrs McFall immediately took the responsibility of over caring for the teenagers as they tackled problems both in and out of school whilst the rest of the school were morning the loss of Mr Clarkson whom fell of the school roof at the end of season 8. Miss Mulgrew spent the episode adapting to her new role as head teacher whilst two new teachers; Miss Spark and her secret fiancee Mr Lowsley settled into their jobs at the Scottish school.

It is clear that viewers are in for another good season and I can’t wait to see what twists and turns will happen over the next term.

Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo
Virgin is going to be the first company to launch a commercial space flight business. It is called Virgin Galactic and yesterday they passed another technical milestone as their rocket (the SpaceShipTwo) flew over 70 miles above the earth. This is where customers, 6 at a time, will be able to experience zero gravity for 5 minutes. Richard Branson is hoping that Virgin Galactic will be ready for blastoff in 2014 and by the looks of it that's a deadline they are going to meet. It will cost £160,000 for this unique experience however that is arguably a reasonable price, Virgin says the first airliners will have costed around that much.

Microsoft buys Nokia
Earlier this week Microsoft unexpectedly announced that they had purchased Nokia's devices and services divisions for $7.2 billion. Stephen Elop who is currently the CEO of Nokia will soon become the new head of devices as Microsoft despite not being involved with the decision to join Microsoft. Weirdly though, Microsoft has also bought Nokia's Asha brand which has nothing to do with Microsoft whatsoever. The simple yet tough mobile phones don't even have Bing!
There has been much controversy since this announcement and rumors suggest that Microsoft only bought Nokia in fear that they were going to stop making Windows Phones and start making Android (which would have been a terrible thing for Microsoft yet amazing for Nokia). The next Windows Phone is likely to be called the Microsoft Lumia, or something along those lines, whilst Nokia starts its transition from an independent company to another part of Microsoft.

Gojee Redesign
Gojee used to be a Java written website where users could input what ingredients they had in their kitchen and then Gojee would recommend a recipe they could make. The service was slow because there was so much Javascript and the recipes were sometimes questionable because they required a lot more ingredients than you inputted. The layout was stylish though and if you were craving a food (for me that is usually chocolate) the website would come up with some scrumptious recipes for you.

However Gojee has had a major redesign. The website is still stylish and beautifully made however it is now also a lot quicker and easier to use. You can favourite dishes so their recipe will be stored somewhere safe in your account and you can now filter the recipes by what meal you are wanting (e.g breakfast, lunch, supper).

Netflix 'My List'
Only weeks after the launch of Netflix launched 'profiles' so different users can have different profiles under the same Netflix account, they have just announced and launched a feature called 'My List' which allows users to create a single list of programs and films they want to watch later.

The most ugly piece of technology ever?
Nintendo is still failing
Nintendo, earlier this week, did two things. 1 - reduce the price of the Wii U which has been an unbelievable failure and 2 - announce a new Nintendo DS. It is called the 2DS and it is like the 3DS apart from it is lacking one dimension. It is also lacking a hinge making the device look uncomfortable to hold and look like a lopsided tablet.

Anyway, the Nintendo Wii U's price will reduce from $349.99 to $299.99. This comes only months after the the company behind Nintendo's flagship game 'Zombie U' announced that it was hardly worth running the servers because so little people played the game. Even the Nintendo fans who queued up overnight to buy the Wii U were soon disappointed with the console. Compared to the XBOX One and the PlayStation 4 (which will be launching later this year), the Wii U is not even in the same league.

The Nintendo 2DS (pictured above) will cost $129.99 and will launch on October 12th. It is compatible will all current Nintendo DS games - even the 3D ones - and it comes in a variety of colours to appeal to the childrens market.

Next iPhone rumoured September 10th announcement
'All things D' reports that Apple's next mobile device will be announced on September 10th. Like every year, there have been hundreds of rumours about the new device but like every year only a small fraction of them are likely to be true. Rumours suggest the next iPhone will have eye tracking technology, a fingerprint scanner and better camera capabilities to put it on par with similar high end mobile devices.
This is the first iPhone with a completely new operating system. iOS 7 look completely different to iOS 6 or anything before that. iOS 7 takes the best things from iOS 6, Android and Windows Phone and puts them together in a beautifully designed package.

Breaking Bad returns
Walt and Jesse returned to viewers screens earlier this week as the show builds up to it's finale. Season 5 of popular American drama  'Breaking Bad' was aired in America last Sunday and was on Netflix UK on Monday morning meaning that British viewers weren't missing out.
The drama is about a terminally ill Chemistry teacher who basically says 'YOLO' and then decided to get into one of the most dangerous industries; cooking methamphetamine with an ex-student (Jesse).

Frankenburger
With the Earth's population and the demand for meat at an all time high farmers will soon not be able to cope with the high demand so recently a Dutch company has been making a burger from stem cells. The burger costed £215,000 to make and it was described at their PR event in London as 'not as juicy as real meat' however they say it will take them another decade to perfect the product before it goes on sale.

Minecraft 1.6
Earlier this month version 1.6 of Minecraft was released. It includes various bug fixes and some much anticipated new items.
Horses, donkeys, mules, foals, skeleton horses and undead horses have been added to the game which you can tame and ride, put armour on to and tie up next to your house. You can feed them on hay bales which you need grow or various other vegetables.
The horses come in a variety of shades between black and white and there are apparently 35 different breeds altogether. Like any other mob on the game their health can increase and decrease depending on circumstances and they can breed with each other if you feed them a golden apple or golden carrot.
Also in 1.6 comes the addition of carpets you can decorate your house/castle/barn/secret underground cave even better!

Top Gear Season 20
Last Sunday at 8PM season 20 of Top Gear started and it was great. Jeremy and James raced across new Zealand, they got a new 'reasonably priced car' and Richard tested hot hatchbacks. Surprisingly the show is currently one of the most popular things on television worldwide and they haven't changed their format in over 10 years! They have a winning formula and are keeping with it... which is probably the best thing they could do.

Instagram update allows Video posts
Instagram, the photo sharing service owned by Facebook, is now allowing users to upload 15 second videos after a new update to the iOS and Android app. After recording your video you can add one of the thirteen video filters, pick a thumbnail image and share it on various social networks. This update comes less than half a year after the successful launch of Vine (a 6 second video sharing app owned by Twitter.)
The new update is okay however it takes ages to complete all of the steps to upload your video and it also takes awhile for them to load on your Instagram feed.
Overall, Instagram wasn't under any pressure to come up with anything new and unique because they were doing fine with just photo uploads however this update may have made them slightly more popular. I for one will not be using Instagram's micro-video sharing feature because Vine is more simple and faster.

Google Reader Alternatives
With the popular Google Reader service being retired early next month many other tech companies have launched a competition RSS reader to cater for your RSS feed needs.
Feedly
Feedly is the main company whose business has been booming since Google announced that it was shutting down Google Reader. Apparently thousands of accounts got transferred from Google Reader to Feedly in the matter of days after Google announced the retirement. Feedly offers a clean website and app with basically everything you would want in an RSS reader. Everything is simple and basic which isn't a bad thing.
Flipboard
Flipboard is a popular app for reading the news from both official sources and your social feeds. It sent an email to all of it's users earlier this week showing them how they could easily import their Google Reader accounts into the Flipboard app. Flipboard offers a service which looks stunning however there is no web version and Flipboard only excels when using it on an iPad.
Digg
Digg launched an RSS reader beta earlier this week. It is even more basic than Feedly however it is likely to be more popular since Digg already has hundreds of thousands of customers. The beta version is only on the web so far and it is extremely black and white. Although it is easy to use it looks really boring and too flat. The team at Digg said that they made this in half the time they would have liked to and they will continue updating and improving it even after it's official launch. Digg Reader is coming out of beta next Wednesday.
AOL
AOL has also launched a beta RSS reader this week. We don't know what it is going to look like or if it is going to bring any unique features to the table as it is still in private beta however it launches in two days time so we will find out then.

All these services are extremely similar however I think I will be using the Digg RSS reader to replace Google Reader. It looks promising and comes from a trustworthy team of geeks.

Liverpool Yellow Duckmarine 'Wet it Be'
The iconic and old Yellow Duckmarine amphibious vehicles take dozens of tourists in Liverpool around the historic city every day and they used to finish each tour with an amazing plunge into the famous Albert Dock however a few months ago they had to stop making the voyage into the water after one of their vehicles started to slowly sink. The press over exaggerated this making it sound like people got wet as the big yellow duck went to the bottom in seconds however it actually took closer to 45 minutes for it to fully sink - by which time everyone on board had been rescued.
Only a few weeks ago, the ducks were allowed to take back to the water however earlier today a tragedy happened. One of the vehicles sunk in a matter of minutes and made approximately 27 people need to be treated in hospital (mostly for shock though).
I did one of these tours earlier this year on a city break in Liverpool when they weren't allowed to enter the water because they were under investigation however it was a great tour. Unfortunately, the future of the Yellow Duckmarine company may be bleak.

The iOS 7 app screen on the iPhone 5
iOS 7 Announced
Apple, on Monday, revealed its new operating system for mobile devices. They've went back to the drawing board and came up with a fresh, clean and stylish operating system which admittedly looks quite familiar. Although Apple of course won't admit it, it is clear that iOS 7 has taken the best parts from Android, Windows Phone and their previous operating systems and then mashed them together. Despite this - they have done it beautifully and created a masterpiece. The new design still may take awhile to get used to and it might also take quite a long time to figure out all the new features however once you do you will be impressed.
Of course though, Apple has added some fancy gimmicks one of them being the app screen; when you tilt your phone backwards it knows you are doing it so it changes to screen so you can look underneath your apps. Siri also has an amazing, intuitive and sexy new look and it's voice even sounds more realistic.
Tech expects, developers and journalists haven't decided what they think of iOS 7 yet however their opinion doesn't really matter, it is the average consumer who Apple will need to wow when they release iOS 7 in Autumn.

Britain's Got Talent Final
Tonight it is the final of the 7th series of the popular talent show Britain's Got Talent where there are a huge range of acts hoping to win the opportunity to perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety show later this year.
Some of the most popular finalists include, 14-year-old comedian - Jack Carroll, singer - Asanda and child dancing group - Pre-Skool.
5 of the 10 acts in the final are children/teenagers, 6 of the 10 acts in the final are singers and there is still 1 act in the final whom hasn't been announced yet as they are a wildcard selected by the judges.
The amazing performance from 'Attraction'
'Attraction' are a group of dancers who have amazed audiences with their stories told through silhetoes however they have been in the press this week since they've also been on the Hungarian and German versions of the show. In an interview with Radio 1's Newsbeat Amanda Holden, whom is a judge on Britain's Got Talent, said "I think that Simon Cowell is right when he says we're part of Europe, we embrace the Europeans. I think if they win, amazing, and if they don't they're, going to go on and have a huge career anyway." She defended the final of the show as ITV are hoping to beat the 12.5 million viewers they had for the final of last years show.

An artists impression of one of the earliest Primates
Old Fossil Found
I'm not a scientific expert - especially when it comes to fossils and that is why I couldn't think of anything better for a title however this is a truly fascinating story.
In China earlier this week a fossil was found of a mouse sized animal which is believed to be one of the species which evolved from the same family tree as humans. The creature, pictured smiling in the picture on the left, is called the 'Archicebus' and thought to be over 55 million years old!

Microsoft shows off early Metro Windows Phone designs
I'm assuming these concept designs for Windows Phone were made just before the launch of Windows Phone 7 when the Windows Mobile team were trying to reinvent their smartphone OS.
After these pictures were released earlier today many people now think that Microsoft should have went with the concepts instead of what they did go with. It looks a lot better, more colourful and less a lot less plain and boring. Maybe we could see Windows Phone 9 looking like this though.

Windows 8.1
Microsoft unofficially showed of its next desktop/tablet operating system to various technology journalists and developers earlier this week. It is called Windows 8.1 and it improves on the current Windows 8. It adds various new features, new apps and settings.
Windows 8.1 is making the quite unsuccessful Windows 8 look quite popular and I’ve already seen dozens of tweets from both consumers and developers saying that if Windows 8.1 delivers all Microsoft is promising they will splash out and buy it. In my opinion though Windows 8.1 should have come out last year. The current version of Windows (Windows 8) feels incomplete and if you want to perform basic tasks like listening to XBOX Music you need to navigate through a slow and clunky system until you find the track you want.
Windows 8.1 makes personalisation a lot easier as it lets you use your pictures for more things, it introduces some new apps such as a currency converter, calculator and alarm clock and it brings back the ‘Start’ button. Multi-tasking on Windows 8 only currently allows you to have 2 apps open at the same time on screen (one app taking 75% of the screen and another app taking the remaining 25%), you cannot split the screen 50/50 for apps or have 3 apps open taking up 33% each however in Windows 8.1 this is made possible.
There seems to be hundreds more features that Microsoft has added to Windows 8.1 and I’ll be uploading a post in the near future informing you of all the new and exciting features that Windows 8.1 will bring.

Matt Smith quits as Doctor Who
After 4 years of doing the show, 11th Doctor, Matt Smith has decided to put his sonic screwdriver back in the box and hang up his keys to the TARDIS. The BBC announced in the late hours of last night that Matt Smith will no longer play ‘The Doctor’ in Doctor Who after the 2013 Christmas Special of the show. Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor Who and it has not yet been confirmed who will take his place traveling through time and space.

XBOX One
Earlier this week XBOX released their next generation games console to compete with the unsuccessful Wii U and the PlayStation 4 (which still hasn't been fully announced yet). However gaming is only one thing which the XBOX one does. It is also lets you watch TV with apps along the side, use Skype and many more apps.
The XBOX One looks similar to Windows 8 and it has some of the features to like the notifications and the snap mode so you can do two things at once.
The biggest gimmick is the voice control; to turn the console on you say 'XBOX on' and then to snap two apps you say "XBOX snap Internet Explorer" (or whatever other app you want to use).
The hardware of the XBOX has been redesigned too. It looks like you can now only store it horizontally and it looks extremely similar to a video tape player from a decade ago. The Kinect has also been redesigned: it now monitors a lot more things such as heart beat and facial expressions, it can watch up to 6 people, it works in the dark and can record in 1080p HD.

Historic legends given makeover

It is only a few weeks before the launch of new TV program called ‘Secret Lives Of’ when each week they focus on a historic figure and the mystery in their lives. To promote the program, earlier this week photos of historic figures were drawn like they lived in the 21st century. (left)

Lego Marvel Super Heroes
No matter what games console you have, the Lego games are brilliant (even if you own a Wii U). I've played the Indiana Jones and Star Wars Lego games on my original Nintendo Wii and I've played Lego Harry Potter on my iPad (although I wouldn't recommend this as it takes up loads of storage space) and both the experiences were great.
We found out earlier this week they will be releasing a Lego Marvel Super Heroes game for every games console from XBOX 360 to PS Vita.
The new game will feature Spider Man, Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Wolverine (from the X men) and Iron Man. The game looks amazing.
There is currently a DC Super Heroes game which features Batman and Superman however the Marvel Super Heroes are a lot better - they've even had their own movie (the Avengers)!

On another note:
Writing this report I've realised how well Lego has done. They've realised over the last few years that people no longer want to play with small plastic blocks if they are over the age of 7 and that is why they have been extremely intelligent and they entered the video gaming industry. It has been a massive success for them as they have made games for Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars and many more huge titles.

People now trust Google more than they trust religion and smartphones have been proven to be as addictive as Cocaine. What a world we live in.

Dubai Police get a new car
Earlier this week it was announced that a Ferrari will be joining Dubai’s current Lamborghini to patrol the streets. This new police car will be used by the women police officers to patrol some of the tourist areas. This car should also ‘reduce road traffic accidents’ however I don’t see how. You may think that running two super cars to catch criminals might get a bit expensive however in Dubai, petrol is often cheaper than water!

Shaun The Sheep is becoming a movie star
Children’s TV character, Shaun the Sheep, announced yesterday that he will be staring in his own movie called ‘Shaun the Sheep’. Makers of Shaun the Sheep decided to make the film after the success of the CBBC TV series which has now been seen in over 170 countries.
Shaun made his first TV appearance in the Wallace and Gromit film ‘A close shave’. Shaun and his sheepish friends will star in the film where they need to take an adventure into the city after their farmer is taken away.

Sir Winston Churchill becomes £5
The bank of England announced earlier this week that old British Prime minister, Winston Churchill, will feature on £5 notes from 2016. His picture along with a picture of Westminster and the Nobel Prize he received will be featured on the £5 note. The Bank of England are hoping that the note will be called a ‘Winston’ for short. Sir Winston Churchill will be replacing Elizabeth Fry who was a campaigner and who died in 1845. Sir Churchill will also be only the second person who lived in the 20th Century to feature on a note.

Boston Marathon Explosions
On Monday 15th April 2013 two explosions went off on the final stretch of the Boston marathon. Over 150 people were reported to be injured and 3 people were unfortunately killed.
Social media has played a huge role this week. It has been both a huge advantage yet also a big disadvantage.
Amazingly, news broke about the bombings by a Tweet on Twitter which news corporations and publishers picked up. Within minutes of the explosions there were hundreds of reporters, photographers and camera men on the scene getting in the way of the police and marathon organisers.
People just like you and me who were at the marathon were taking photos and videos and then uploading them to Vine, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram for the world to see. This is called Citizen Journalism.
Because television can’t keep up with social media and news on the internet. Some news anchors resorted to reading out rumours and comments from their Twitter feed. As you can expect, these were uncensored and risky to say on air. There was lots of inappropriate content on the internet that night as people jumped to conclusions and blamed certain groups of people for the bombings. Some of the racist comments even started trending on Twitter.
Yesterday, a shootout between a suspect and the police was recorded on camera by somebody living in the local area and then published onto YouTube. This was also citizen journalism which was used by hundreds of news publishers.
This morning news broke that the final suspect had finally been captured. This is a huge relief for everyone in Boston.
In conclusion, we've now learnt that in the future no matter how tragic a news story is, it will be photographed, filmed and written about not just by news publishers but also by the general public. Is this a good thing though?

HDlive ultrasound
Scientists and doctors in Monaco have developed a new type of ultrasound which turns your confusing, black and white ultrasound images into colourful almost 3D images you can see every bump, curve and fold of you baby. The technology used in real time so you get to see the images straight away.

Google Glass Explorers
For the lucky celebrities who won the Google Glass Experience through a competition on Twitter and Google+ a few weeks ago, their pair of Google Glasses are coming this week.
Google is getting people who have lots of social impact to try their new project, Google Glass. Google glass shows real time information and other information through a pair of internet connected glasses. They have not launched officially yet however we can expect they will by the end of the year. I think they are getting people to try them now as a way of advertising them so they will share their positive experience of the glasses on their social networks.
What will come after Google Glass? Google Contact Lenses - now that would be cool.

PSY 'Gentleman'
YouTube legend, PSY, officially released his new song 'Gentleman' at 11:00AM today. If you are wondering why this is so significant it is because PSY sung 'Gangnam Style' which at the end of 2012 became the most watched video on YouTube. It became a worldwide success within weeks.
'Gentleman' is the name of the song which was released earlier today in a concert in Korea called 'Happening' which was also live-streamed onto YouTube. Over 110,000 people tuned into to the channel to hear the new song and most of them liked what they heard.
The concert was held at the Seoul World Cup stadium in South Korea and before the unveiling of the music video for 'Gentleman' he performed some of his iconic songs.
The song was apparently purposely leaked a few days before the official release of the song so people know the tune of the song before they see the music video.
'Gentleman' sounds extremely similar to Gangnam Style and uses some of the same music techniques however critics do seem to like the song and they think it deserves to have the same success as Gangnam Style.

Facebook Home on the HTC First
Facebook Phone Home Launched
On April 12th 2013, Facebook released 'Home' for a number of expensive Android phones and also the brand new HTC First.
Facebook Home customises your lock screen by giving you a constant feed of your Facebook friends latest photos. It also brings a feature called Chat Heads which is a small circular bubble which sits Facebook Messenger on top of whatever app you are in. This lets you continue Facebook messaging people in any app.
Facebook Phone only looks pretty if your friends are pretty. It will become pretty awkward if you are still friends with any of your ex-girlfriends as whenever they upload a new photo, it will appear on your lock screen automatically. It will become even more awkward if your wife sees and asks you why there are pictures of your ex on your phone.
Anyway, in conclusion, Facebook Phone will be loved by some however hated by most. Sometimes people just want to be able to check their Twitter without Facebook being thrown in your face.

Twitter Trends
In a blog post earlier this week, Twitter announced that they were adding over 160 new places where you can monitor trends including 30 new countries. In the UK alone over 20 new towns and cities have been added including Middlesbrough, Hull, Blackpool and Nottingham.
You can change what trends you see by logging onto Twitter and then where it says trends, click change and then simply select what location's trends you want to see.

Outlook Calender... Finally
Only 7 months late the calender on outlook.com has finally been updated to the new metro/modern look.
The calender performs well, is easy to use and the new modern look of it is amazing however as I current Google Calender user, I'm not going to switch to Outlook just yet. The only reason for my delay is that there is no simple way to transfer all of my events over to Outlook Calendar so I would need to remake every event.
I see this isn't a huge problem and I will need to move over to Outlook Calendar eventually when Google Calender stops syncing with Windows Phone. But until then, I like how Google Calender works with every computer and shows you all the information (sometimes too much).
In terms of looks, Outlook looks a lot better and a lot more modern so I do look forward to the day when my whole calendar is on there however for now I am staying with Google.

The scary looking Zygon
Doctor Who 50th Anniversary
Script reading started earlier this week for the 50th Anniversary of BBC Sci-fi Doctor Who. David Tennant (10th Doctor), Billie Piper (10th Doctor's companion), Matt Smith (11th Doctor) and Jenna-Louise Coleman (11th Doctor's companion) were attending the script read through as they will be acting in the November special episode of the show.
The storyline of the episode is still a secret however we found out officially earlier this week that the Zygons will be returning.
The Zygons are a classic Doctor Who monster who were last seen on our screens over two decades ago!
Although, practically nothing is known about the special, it is going to be amazing.

It's Grand National Day
The Grand National is without doubt the most popular horse racing event of the year. It is held at Aintree near Liverpool and 40 Horses enter. Unfortunately 2 horses died in last years race however this year it should hopefully be no horses at all.
I, for one, am certainly looking forward to the race at 4:15PM and I'm sure Channel 4 will do brilliant coverage of it.
