Windows 8

Windows 8 is what Microsoft workers are calling the new Windows operating system coming out in Autumn 2012.
Current tablet computers like the Dell Inpiron Duo have proved to be unpopular because how hard Windows 7 has been to use with a touch screens so Windows 8 is being made so they are easy to use on tablet computers without a mouse and keypad. 
So far not much has been announced about it apart from the new log-on screen and some other smaller features.
With the new log-on screen, instead of login in with a password, you can do it by swiping your finger along parts of a photo you have selected earlier. Such as circling faces and doting peoples nose's. (However it still lets you use a normal character password if you choose.)
The new operating system will also feature Internet 10. This will give you access to the Windows App Store, it will be faster than any other previous Microsoft browsers and it will also be available on other devices such as mobile phones.

Another (maybe revolutionary  idea) is 'Windows To Go'. This will allow users to save most of their personal settings onto a memory stick so they can access them easily from another computer. It will apparently keep working 60 seconds after the USB has been removed from the computer. With Apple, Google and other companies trying to remove the need for USB ports in computers by starting Cloud based software's Windows has responded with this extremely useful piece of kit.

Windows 8 is also going to give you the option to reset or refresh you PC. Resetting it will remove all personal data, apps, settings and passwords and refreshing your PC will keep all data however reinstall windows.

Windows 8 will give you new storage options and warn you when you are low on storage.

One problem I have realised is that lots of people like having a computer or laptop to use in their home and from what we have seen so far, Windows 8 doesn't look very mouse and keyboard friendly. So it is lightly that they will keep producing Windows 7 for actual computers and Windows 8 will be exclusive for tablets. Or they could make a desktop friendly version of Windows 8.

In conclusion, I think that if the rest of Windows 8 sounds as good as what they have released so far we could be looking at an extremely successful version of windows.

BBC One

Just seen an interesting advert for BBC 1 Christmas 2011. Features cast from Outnumbered, Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who. Just thought it was worth seeing.
Another thing from BBC One which started this week was Home Cooking Made Easy with Lorraine Pascale. First episode was about comfort foods and it was amazing to see how easy some of the delicious dishes were to make.

Hypnotism

My PAPE"R"MAIL in the next edition of the Wyvern is going to hopefully going to be about Hypnotism. I am currently fascinated with it. So far I have learnt that a hypnotist tries to contact the sub concious mind and that you can never do anything why you are hypnotised which you would not normally do. e.g kill someone.
Hypnotists hypnotise people and make them do stuff by making suggestions to the brain. A hypnotist could convince your brain that your hand is stuck to the table when in fact it is not stuck at all. I think that is why if you tell your self something so many times you will eventually believe it. Another example is that if a child gets bullied at school and everybody called him stupid. His brain could eventually start believing what other people are saying.

iOS 5

iOS 5 which is the operating system which will be featured on the iPhone 5 is looking brilliant so far! It will include over 200 new features including a Notification Centre, a Newsstand and Twitter integration.
But let me start by telling you about the best feature because unlike any other versions iOS 5 doesn't need a computer to be activated. You can edit your photos and add new e-mail folders without the need of a PC! You can also wirelessly sync it to your PC so it can back up your device and always be able to access all of your movies, TV programs, photos and music.
Next is the notification centre, it gathers all your new emails, texts and friends requests together. It also gathers the current weather and stocks and shares.
“iPad and iPod touch join the conversation” with the new iMessage system. It sends unlimited free text messages through the internet to whoever you want as long as they have iOS 5 too.
All of this may be good, however the best feature so far for me has got to be the Newsstand. From the app store you can subscribe to a newspaper or magazine and then every time a new edition
of that publication comes out it will update automatically so you can read it on your device.
You can also do a lot more with your photos because you can crop them, rotate them, remove red-eye and then when you are done, you can upload them to twitter with the new iOS 5 twitter integration.The twitter integration lets you tweet directly from Safari, YouTube, photos and maps.
If you are interested in iOS 5 you need either one of the latest iPhones, iPads or iPods.

What do you think of the new school uniform?

After asking a number of people about what they think of the new school uniform I have had a wide range of replies. I found out that 60% of the people who I asked liked the blazers and only 40% of the people who I asked liked the clip-on ties. With the blazers people said that they were comfortable, they liked all the pockets and how they looked. One person went so far to say that they would even want it framed. Unfortunately however others said that they hate the shoulder pads and they think that they look funny.
With the clip on ties some people said that they were mint however others didn‟t like the design and said that they didn‟t like their top buttons done up.
The reason we got a new uniform is because we have changed the school name and will soon become an Academy. The new school also looks smarter.

iPhone 4S announced

On 4th October 2011 the next generation iPhone was announced. It is called the iPhone 4S and the operating system it runs on is called iOS5 which gets released on 12th October 2011. iOS 5 is going to be available for the latest iPads, iPhones and iPods. Anyway, new features on the iPhone 4S are a Twitter integrated and faster system, an 8mp camera (which is better than the iPhone 4's 5mp camera) and HD video recoding.

A new voice operated program called Siri is also in the iPhone 4S. Basically you say a command like ''what is the weather today'' and it the intelligent assistant will get things done just by asking. You can even ask Siri to read aloud your messages for you and organise events in your calender!
Apple are also launching a cards app which lets you create a card (e.g birthday card) and then you can send it off to be printed and delivered all by the touch of a button on your Apple device. Goodbye Moonpig!
Many poeople claimed that the next iPhone would have a bigger screen however the device stays the same size!
Apple also announced in this presentation that there are going to be 2 major upgrades for the iPod nano and that they are going to make the iPod touch in white! Apparently the next iPod touch is also going to be under £130!
The iPhone 4S pricing system works like this: (2 year contract) 8GB - $199, 16GB -$299 and 64GB - $399.

Airbrushing

Airbrushing, it is something that we see and hear of every day. It is in newspapers, magazines and websites. But what actually is it. In this detailed article I will tell you exactly what airbrushing is. Airbrushing is used by media companies which want to sell a product or make somebody look better. We all know that nobody is perfect, but media companies try their best to make people look spotless. When advertising a skin care product companies could air brush their models to make it look like the product actually made a huge difference to how someone looked. A few years ago there was a campaign to stop airbrushing because it had gone too far and it was giving people false impressions. More recent though, last July an L'Oreal advert was banned because the model had been too airbrushed.

During the Royal Wedding period ‘GRAZIA’ magazine admitted to airbrushing a photo of Kate Middleton. They started with the photo on the right and airbrushed William out. They also made her slimmer. “Media are fuelling eating disorders” claim psychiatrists as teenagers are eating less because of peer pressure from the media to have a small waist.

Torchwood: The End of Miracle Day

On Thursday 15th September 2011 it was the last episode of Torchwood: Miracle day.
To be honest I wasn't expecting that much from it as I thought the rest of the series was slow moving and completely irrelevant to the big picture however the last episode was amazing. It has left Torchwood open for another series which could include Rex. It also closed some loose ends however left the series on a big cliff hanger.
Anyway, what I was saying earlier about how some episodes have been completely irrelevant in the bigger picture, the 2nd episode was unessential. It also had nothing to do with anything, also that episode with Angelo. Apparently he knew something about the miracle, he didn't tell us anything.
All in all though it has been a good series and I hope they do another one. If they do though they should format it like series 1&2, so instead of having 10 episodes with the same story line they have 13 separate episodes about different stuff. Also, please get the original Torchwood theme tune back!

The Apprentice: The Final

Tonight is the final of the apprentice 2011. The Wyvern's review will be on the website by Monday night with facts about the series and interviews with fans. My guess is that Tom is going to win because Lord Sugar has a soft spot for him however I think he will struggle in the interviews tonight. I don't think that he is that good with the words!

Top Gear Episode 1

Episode 1 was great! The funniest thing was watching Richard Hammond test drive the huge 4x4 truck thing. I think Jeremy Clarkson did a amusing Jaguar e-type video aswell!

Nintendo Wii U

Here is a photo of the new Nintendo Wii. It is hopefully going to be released next year however current reviews of it have not been very good. It looks very expensive and it doesn't physically look very good either.

Doctor Who Series 6 Part 1

EP4: I think the episode was satisfactory, not one of the best plots as it was very confusing. It was good seeing new parts of the TARDIS. However I didn't like the idea of the TARDIS being a girl. 6/10
EP3: Ahoy there, episode 3 of Doctor Who was great. People may disagree with me but I really enjoyed it. 7.10
EP2: What an action packed episode, from the first minute this episode was destined to be good. River Song is getting ever more interesting. It was not very confusing how they killed the Silence so that was also good!
EP1: The new series was back on our screens last Saturday and I thought the first episode was truly brilliant however according to some newspaper reviews I read the next day, appartently they are trying too hard. I think that is nonsense though because I can't wait until the next episode.

Easter Camping

Over good friday, St George's day and easter Sunday I was camping at a location near Hadrains wall and hexham. Luckily the weather was great almost all weekend. On the saturday we went on a 7 mile hike down Hadrians wall and on Sunday we had a game of cricket and a equipment hunt.

This movie is truly brilliant movie which has you gripped from the first second. As the movie goes on you are constantly asking your self questions as dark secrets get revealed about the characters. I would rate this movie 4/5.

Great idea!

Why don't we make the Branksome Bugle into a documentary film? It could be called the story of the Branksome Bugle and it could have interviews mixed with short films and pitchers. In the film it could have James May playing as Liam P, Sybil Fawlty playing as Katie A, Jennifer Anderson playing as Rebecca P, James Corden playing as James A, Dawn French as Elisabeth Davey, Rupert Grint as Ben Maclean, Dame Judy Dench as Mrs Surtees and Paul Daniels as Mr Coyne!
What a good documentary film that would be we could also have James Cameron directing.
On a serious side though I think it would be a good idea, it could recall some of the best bugle moments like when we went to London and when we went to the Northern Echo. It could also recall some of the not so good memories like when Katie gets bossy!

The Kings Speech

This movie is like nothing I have ever seen. It is telling the story of when King George VI was becoming King. He suffered from a stammer and therefor needed a speech therapist. With his speech therapist the King successfully made speeches though. He still struggled however he worked hard and eventually became a successful ruler. This movie will tear at your heart strings as you follow the King through from 1936 to 1938 when he eventually becomes king and then to 1939 as the second world war begins.

Gnomeo and Juliet

This cartoon film is a hilarious version of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet however they have changed it so it is more child friendly. Instead of having two Italian families in deep hate it is 2 back gardens who's garden gnomes fight behind closed doors. When Juliet from the Capulet garden sees a beautiful flower and tries to retrieve it she runs into Gnomeo and it is love at first sight. The famous people doing the voices for this film are very good however for some reason I don't think this movie is anything special. I only went to see the movie because there was nothing better on. So for that reason I can't give it 5/5.

Don't stare!

Next time there is a lonely cyclist stood at the traffic lights infront off you, please don't stare. If the time is 7:45 on a cold winters morning and there is nothin else to look at just think that cyclist is embarraced in his dark blue helmet. He can feel everytime you look from your warm car window and besides what has he ever done to you? So please be aware of him so you don't run him over but remember to not stare for that cyclist is me!

Yogi Bear 2D

Yogi Bear was an amusing and funny movie. I went to see it in 2D. I think it would have been a little bit better in 3D though. The movie is enjoyable and very easy to understand. So I don’t feel like I can give it 5 stars or even 4 stars because I think there could have been more twists and turns. Everything was expected. Despite this though I would recommend this movie to children and people who like original and funny entertainment.

Happy Birthday Branksome Bugle

All November I was looking forward to the birthday party because I was excited to celebrate 1 year of the Branksome Bugle. It was the 19th last year when I was approached by Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Surtees and told about the idea of a School newspaper.

Jenny Chapman, MP for Darlington, and her cool PA Lola turned up to the party. Also Mr Haylock and new head teacher Mr Kipling attended.

There was food and drinks for members of the Bugle to enjoy while socialising with each other.

During the party there was a birthday cake and after singing happy birthday, Katie ceremonially cut the first slice into the Cake.
